The 5th house describes everything you bring forth from yourself: children, works of art, play, flirtation, creative projects. What they have in common is that each one is an expression of you.
In traditional astrology it is the house of children and enjoyment. Modern readings add creativity, hobbies, romantic interest and the appetite for risk. Gambling and speculation belong here as well, since both are a form of play and risk.
The difference from the 7th house matters: the 5th is the excitement and self-expression side of love, the 7th its partnership and commitment side.
If the house is empty
An empty 5th house does not mean there will be no creativity or no children; its rulership simply comes from another area.
